Community

As a family-owned business, D’s Ace Hardware is deeply committed to the communities we serve.
We believe in giving back to the neighborhoods around our stores and supporting
causes that align with our values of family, community and compassion.

Why This Matters to Us

D’s Ace Hardware is a locally owned business and we have been part of this community for years. And we plan to stay. When this community thrives, we all benefit. That’s not corporate speak.

We believe a hardware store should be more than a place to buy screws and paint. We want to be the kind of business that helps make this town better. Every dollar you spend with us stays local and helps fund the things we all care about.

Our Two-Part Approach

We split our community work into two areas:

  • Big picture – National charities where we team up with other Ace stores
  • Local focus – Direct support for organizations right here in town

Local Community Support

Youth and Education

  • Sports teams – We sponsor Little League, youth soccer, high school teams. You’ll see our name on jerseys around town.
  • School projects – Teachers need supplies for science fairs, drama productions, garden projects. We donate materials and expertise.
  • Scouting groups – Eagle Scouts and Gold Award candidates do amazing community projects. We provide lumber, tools, and guidance.
  • STEM programs – Local schools run robotics clubs and science competitions. We help with materials and volunteer time.

Community Events and Civic Life

  • Festival sponsorships – The summer festival, holiday parade, farmers market – we’re usually a sponsor.
  • Charity runs and walks – 5Ks for cancer research, walks for the food bank – we provide water stations and volunteers.
  • Free workshops – We teach basic home repair, gardening, grilling safety. Knowledge sharing builds community.
  • Community projects – Park improvements, playground updates, community gardens – we donate materials and labor.

Support for Local Nonprofits

  • Food banks – We donate gift cards, canned goods, and volunteer time during food drives.
  • Homeless shelters – They need cleaning supplies, basic tools, maintenance materials.
  • Crisis centers – We provide supplies and help with facility improvements.
  • Senior centers – Maintenance materials, supplies for activities, help with accessibility improvements.
  • Animal shelters – Building materials for kennels, cleaning supplies, fundraising support.

Employee Involvement

Our team doesn’t just work here. We encourage and support their community involvement:

  • Volunteer time – We give employees time off to volunteer for causes they care about
  • Skills sharing – Our paint expert teaches at the community center. Our garden specialist helps with school gardens.
  • Event participation – You’ll see our red vests at community clean-ups, charity events, and local festivals

Environmental Responsibility

Being a good neighbor includes taking care of the environment:

  • Recycling programs – We recycle batteries, paint cans, old equipment
  • Energy efficiency – LED lighting, efficient heating and cooling
  • Local sourcing – We buy from local suppliers when possible to reduce transportation
  • Waste reduction – We minimize packaging and reuse materials when we can

How to Request Support

We get many requests for donations and sponsorships. Here’s how it works:

The Process:

  1. Pick up a donation request form at our customer service desk
  2. Fill it out completely – we need details about your organization and project
  3. Submit it back to us
  4. Our management team reviews requests monthly
  5. We respond to everyone, approved or not

What We Look For:

  • Local organizations serving our immediate area
  • Clear explanation of how donations will be used
  • Projects that benefit people in our community
  • Realistic requests that fit our budget
  • Organizations that align with our focus areas

What We Generally Can’t Support:

  • National organizations with local chapters (they should go through corporate)
  • Political campaigns or partisan causes
  • Individual fundraisers (medical bills, sports trips)
  • Organizations outside our service area

We wish we could say yes to everyone, but our resources are limited. We focus on causes where we can make a real difference close to home.

Thank you for making our community work possible. Together, we’re building something better than just a hardware store – we’re building a stronger community for everyone.

National Partnerships That Matter Locally

Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals

This is our biggest commitment. Here’s what makes it special:

  • 170 children’s hospitals across the U.S. and Canada get support
  • These hospitals treat 32 million kids every year
  • Every single dollar we raise here goes to OUR local children’s hospital
  • Nothing gets sent to some national office – it all stays regional

    American Red Cross Partnership

When disasters like floods, fires, hurricanes hit, the Red Cross shows up with food, shelter, and emergency help. We support them because disasters don’t care if you’re rich or poor, and everyone deserves help when their world gets turned upside down.

We collect donations during major disasters and help fund their rapid response efforts. When your neighbor’s house burns down or a tornado hits the next county, the Red Cross truck that shows up might be there because of money raised right here in our store.
